New Species of Fish Named After Failed Bounty Hunter

greedo vs s. greedoi

A new species of catfish has been discovered, and researchers in Auburn University in Alabama named it Peckolita greedoi. A paper published last week describes several newly discovered catfish including P. greedoi, and explains the etymology:

Named for Greedo of Rodia, a bounty hunter killed by Han Solo in Chalmun’s Spaceport Cantina in the movie “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” (Lucasfilm, Twentieth Century Fox, 1977) with whom this species shares a remarkable resemblance.

The full paper, Three new species of saddled loricariid catfishes, and a review of Hemiancistrus, Peckoltia, and allied genera (Siluriformes) is available online:

Lando is Back!

Everyone’s favorite smoothie is back in Star Wars: Rebels!

Film veteran Billy Dee Williams brings his famed character Lando Calrissian back to a galaxy far, far away in “Idiot’s Array”. This episode, set before the original appearance of Lando, shows the scoundrel working on his dastardly plan to one day have a gas mining business that takes up all of his time.
